A collection of my favorite sounds

Posted on  by Logan Waddell

This assignment I took from the Audio Assignment bank called “A collection of your favorite sounds.”

This assignment was pretty easy and straight forward except I had to think of sounds that i found satisfying. But that didn’t take too long. Lately I have been watching some videos of people having close encounters with whales, so lately i’ve been liking the sounds of a whale song (that is the first sound). The second sound is horse hooves hitting hard ground, I ride horses every week and hearing this sound is kind of satisfying to me. The second sound is the sound of a soda can being opened. And the Last sound is hard/high heeled shoes on concrete.

How I did this:

I went onto the Audio Assignment Bank and chose the assignment mentioned above.

I went onto Zapsplat (has free sound effects) and downloaded the sound effects I wanted.

Then, I went into Audacity, imported the sounds and placed them where I wanted, exported it into an MP3 and uploaded it to Soundcloud.

Audio Assignment 2

Posted on  by Logan Waddell

For this second audio assignmment, I chose to do “played from another room.”

There are two parts to this particular assignment. The first part was creating the audio. Here is the second part:

You are in your room trying to do your homework. You hear your brother play his music because his room is right next to yours. At first you don’t mind and carry on. Then his favorite song from his favorite rock band starts blasting. You start to get a little irritated and distrated. You start to get up to ask him to turn down his music. But your mother gets there before you and asks him to turn it down. He does so and you return to your homework.

Spooky Season

Posted on  by Logan Waddell

Here is my first audio assignment that I used from the Audio Assignment Bank. Although it’s not spooky season yet, I still love some spooky/horror related things and had a lot of fun making this audio.

How I created the audio:

I already had Audacity downloaded onto my computer so that part I didn’t need to do.

I clicked on the link to Freesound on the syllabus and clicked on and downloaded the sound called “horror bowl” by Klankbeeld.

Then I went onto another website called Zapsplat (which has free sound effect samples that you can download into an MP3 thing).

I downloaded the sound effects that I wanted to use that were in the horror category.

Once everything was downloaded, I imported the “Horro bowl” sound and listened to it to come up with ideas of how I wanted to make the audio.

I then imported the other sound effects and moved them around to see where it fit best and how it sounded.

Horse Show GIF

Posted on  by Logan Waddell

For this Assignment Bank assignment, I had to make a GIF of an animal doing something funny. Well, I had a hard time creating a GIF perfect for that, so I took a video from my camera roll of someone riding a horse in a show and turned it into a GIF.

How I did this was I downloaded GIF maker, selected the video I wanted to use, edited the time length of the video so that the GIF wouldn’t be too long. Then I hit continue, and it did the rest of the work for me.

Are we there yet?

In this picture I am sitting at a table in Sammy T’s having my first margarita (I am 21). The background is a pine tree and some snow on the ground. But wait, that’s not right. It’s almost summer! Well, as much as I love the warm weather and going on vacations, Christmas is my favorite time of the year. Christmas is the time when all of my family traditions come out to play, I go skiing every winter with my mom, I spend early Christmas with my family, and I love sitting by the fire drinking hot chocolate and listening to Christmas music.

My dog is missing! (Not actually)

Posted on  by Logan Waddell

For another design assignment, I chose to create a missing poster of my dog. When I saw this assignment I thought “why not?” I’ve never had a poster of my dog and I think it’s high time I had one. I also talked about her in my About Me, so I also thought that I show y’all what she looks like. How I created this was I looked up “Missing dog poster template” on google images, picked out which one I liked, took a picture of my dog, filled in some of the details, edited my dog’s picture, and hit save. I did all of this on the Paint app

“Let us be rid of it, once and for all!”

As my favorite movie quote, I chose this one from The Lord of the Rings: The Return of tIhe King.”

I chose this quote because it always gets me emotional and gives me the chills. I love watching the trilogy with my family and by myself. I cannot explain how amazingly well done the movies are, the acting, the scenery, the music, the CGI, everything is just amazing!

Advertisements everywhere

Posted on  by Logan Waddell

For my designblitz assignment, I decided to drive around my city to see what I could find. And boy did I see a lot of advertisements. I found advertisements for local companies, schools, garages, and medical companies. The first picture I took while I was dropping off my car at a garage. The color in the picture is very bright and colorful. I feel as if the colors are jumping out at me. I don’t think this is very effective because the picture is very cartoonish it is not something I would pay that much attention to.

My second picture is of an 18-wheeler that I saw while in a parking lot. The first thing that my eyes went to was the big “R”. There a lot of dominace with the “R” and the red and blue which I think makes this advertisement effactive in terms of where your gaze might go. Also, there are lines in it that create a sort of balance and direction.

The next two pictures show a bit of minimalism and used up a lot of the space with different sized fonts. It was hard for me to focus on one spot. I don’t think these were effective.

The last picture I found at a gas station. I think this also has a hint of minimalism, and the fonts are different sizes as well. I found this sign to be effective because of the red letters. When I think of the color red, I think “stop” or a sense of urgency, therefore I think the people who designed this sign made it so that it is urgent that you get the oil change special and your tires rotated for $39.95.

Creating my own book jacket

Posted on  by Logan Waddell

Making this really tested me. I had never used photoshop before and it took me a while to figure out how to use it. When I used the photoshop, I started off being enthusiastic, then that turned into stress, which then turned into frustration because this picture took me hours to complete. I have to admit that I think I may have over thought this assignment when I read the description in the assignment bank. Nonetheless I am happy with how it turned out.

Tutorial on my final project

Posted on  by Logan Waddell

I had a hard time figuring out what kind of character I wanted to create. But then I thought of the musical Annie and how there is one character who doesn’t have an official name, she is only reffered to as the ‘Star to be’. I had an aha moment and took inspiration from that character and put my own story to her.

The first media I created was the audition poster. How I did this was I went onto a website called Canva, where you can use free templates to make posters. I typed in Broadway show poster template and what you see in my project was the template. I then looked up theatres in New York to make it seem more real, so I typed in the Palace Theatre. I liked the font that was used for the word Broadway, so I kept it. I typed in audition, the date, a discription of what the directors, producers, and casting directors where looking for, and the time in which the audition starts.

For the audio, I downloaded some sounds off of Freesound and sent them to my phone so that I could use Garage Band. (I tried using Audacity but it wouldn’t let me download one of the sounds) Some of the sounds I created myself. I recorded myself doing a vocal warmup using Audacity, then I lowered the bass, treble, and volume to make it sound lofi. Then, I used a makeup bag and recorded myself putting on a desk and unzipping it. I recorded myself unscrewing the top of a powder box and tapping a powder brush against it I recorded myself was me closing a door (my bedroom door to be exact) to give the illusion that my character was leaving her dressing room to go onstage. The last thing I recorded was the music. The music is an instrumental of the song “NYC” from Annie. I put all of the sounds that I downloaded and recorded onto Garage Band, edited them, and placed them where I wanted until I was satisfied.

The last thing I created was the ticket. I created that the same way I created the audition poster. I went into Canva, searched theatre ticket. I typed in the actual actress’s name that was the inspiration for my character and who is in the inspiration video. I typed in the name of the show and typed in some of the credits. Then, I typed in the price of the ticket, the Palace Theatre, and the year of the show.

I hope you enjoy!

I love your blog site it looks really good I love the theme. The only comment I would have is to organize your assignment more orderly so it’s easier to access everything without the hassle of scrolling, and it makes it easier for people to comment! You’re doing a great job!
